For the menu background, Osgiliath would be my first pick. It's a less common "stronghold," but it looks really cool and allows for a lot of detail as well. Because it's more of a city than a big fortress, it allows the background of the main menu to view it from many different angles and locations, rather than just viewing one big castle such as Minas Tirith. I love Minas Tirith, but as a background image, I think it would become a bit boring looking at it from the same 3 angles over and over.
There's talk of strange folk abroad...

I would say Mordor. While Minas Tirith is cool and all, when it comes to bfme I'd rather have an open map made first where I can get some decent gameplay. Castle maps have no build space.

For me its the shire, a paradise in my mind. I told my daughter that is what heaven will be like. She disagreed, I said can you imagine a better place?
